Here at British Medical Courses, we aim to offer a one-day course to help our ED, medical and surgical colleagues, regardless of their grade in hospital, to learn the skill of identifying free fluid and AAA in the abdomen, US guided vascular access and performing an echo during cardiac arrest with ultrasound.

Course will cover, FAST, e-FAST, FAFF, vascular access, FIB and echo in life support. The course also covers the essential components of ultrasound physics and good governance. This course aligns with international standards and is ideal for clinicians seeking to integrate ultrasound into their practice for rapid, bedside diagnostics.

 

  1. Fundamentals of Ultrasound
    • Physics & machine optimisation (knobology)
    • Probe selection & handling
    • Image acquisition & interpretation
  2. Essential ED Ultrasound Applications
    • Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma
      • Detection of free fluid (haemoperitoneum, pericardial effusion)
    • Extended FAST
      • Pneumothorax & pleural effusion assessment
    • Extended Deep Vein Assessment
      • Basic DVT scanning techniques
  3. Cardiac Ultrasound (Echo in Life Support – ELS)
    • Basic echocardiography views (Parasternal long and shot axis, Apical, Subcostal)
    • Identification of pericardial effusion & tamponade
    • Assessment of cardiac activity in arrest (PEA)
  4. Lung Ultrasound
    • Identification of pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and consolidation (B-lines)
    • Ultrasound in respiratory presentations
  5. Vascular Access & Procedural Guidance
    • Ultrasound-guided IV cannulation & central line placement

After completing this course, you’ll have the opportunity to take our proprietary mock exam to demonstrate your understanding. Successfully completing it earns you a certificate celebrating your accomplishment.
